Chamba swatanthra cinema.

We had discussed very least about parallel / indie / alternative cinema. With an exception for Don and his Savam. I don’t know if anybody know about Blender studio and their open movies. Movies produced by them like Big Buck Bunny are very interesting and it is very much competitive in quality, quantity and aesthetics. For those who dont know about Blender, Blender is a free/ libre software for animation movie production. They are using open production workflow, open tools for everything. For example, Agent 327. I got a chance to meet Francesco Siddi – core team member, and discuss about their mode of operation. https://cloud.blender.org/open-projects – will give you all the information about their open projects. All the source code are available for free of cost – free as in free beer. They had opened all their work in public domain. They have a curated set of character models, textures and HDRI profiles. I believe some of you remember an announcement by Ashique Abu about opening up all resources of his movie like complete set of video he had shot. Unfortunately, nothing happened. If that happens, lot of people will be able to learn editing, camera movements, workflow, special effects etc. I am not undermining its size ( correct me if the movie in editing table is less than 500 gb). Let us consider memes. Memes are actually something produced out of a stream of audio – visual experience. That could be anything ranging from Jr Ambani’s talk to (sequence of )images of a charming child. Along with or without its context, we create abstraction around it ( customize it for our own.) and we make some political statement. (such as a joke or criticising ulli, kumman or chittappan etc ) This is called remix culture. ( read more from here : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Remix_culture , http://remixtheory.net/?cat=6 ) Like memes, What about remix happening in video production ? Can you imagine kind of revolution that could lead ? Movies with lot of aesthetics, different climax ending other than the official one. How vibrant that would be. There was a group of people, whom most of them are tech savvy – not in movie business, tried to set up some open movie project. But lacking artists, that project failed. I am thinking of Chamba swatanthra cinema – The project I discussed above. Chamba swatanthra cinema collective is non profit and believes in Freedom. Most of the people behind are from free/libre software background. If you feel this idea of sharing appealing, shall we discuss how to work around this ?
